Grower group hosts buyers’ fairs

A co-operative of growers in the Midlands will be holding three plant buyers’ fairs this year to support UK growers and help them compete with similar events in Europe.

Since the former Midland Regional Growers (MRG) Show rebranded itself last autumn as a national plant buyers’ fair, open to growers across the UK, the event has doubled in popularity. The British Plant Buying Fairs will be held on 7 February, 12 June and 14 August, at the MRG transport hub facility, run by Rick White Logistics in Pershore, Worcestershire. Bransford Webbs managing director and MRG deputy chairman Geoff Caesar said the event is aimed at retail buyers. He said exhibitors were quality finished plant suppliers to the garden centre market. The reason this fair is different to other shows is that all stock displayed is available for sale. With 29 companies it will be our biggest yet. It is still modest, but growing. Eight new exhibitors attracted to the show include tree fern specialist HSK Gardening & Leisure and rose grower Chessum Plants. Caesar explained the event was originally started when the MRG realised there was no opportunity similar to the buyers’ fairs in Boskoop, Holland, for UK growers. He concluded: We would like to continue to grow to support UK growers. For further information, call Helena Higley on 0118 930 3132.
