Green infrastructure, urban forestry and risk management all to feature at September Arboriculture Association conference

Managing the Urban Forest, the Arboricultural Association's 47th Annual Amenity Arboriculture Conference to be held at the University of Exeter from 8-11 September 2013 is set to feature 29 speakers - some from as far afield as Australia, the USA and Scandinavia.

Conference sessions will focus on five themes - pests and diseases, urban forestry and green infrastructure, risk management, establishment, and ancient and heritage trees.
Following a keynote address from the newly appointed chief executive officer of the Arboricultural Association (AA) Karen Martin, Sweden's Vikki Bengtsson and Mike Raupp from the USA will lead a session on pests and diseases.

In the afternoon, Cecil Konijnendijk from the University of Copenhagen reviews urban forest governance as part of a session on green infrastructure and urban forestry.
The second day (Tuesday) is devoted to tree risk management and includes presentations from Australia's Mark Stuart and Sharon Lilly of the International Society of Arboriculture.

Wednesday begins with Keith Sacre and Glynn Percival looking at tree establishment from the perspective of BS8545, and is followed by contributions from Malmo-based Henrik Sjøman and fellow-Swede Bjorn Embren.

The conference closes with discussion of issues around the green tourist potential of trees and assessment of methodologies relating to heritage and ancient trees.
National chairman of the association Peter Holloway said "This is a rare opportunity for industry professionals, public sector managers and anyone with a stake in the urban environment to benefit from the very latest commentary, opinions and research from globally respected experts".
