Gow, who will continue his position at GIMA, bought the run-down Hurrans Garden Centre in Burcot, Bromsgrove, for an undisclosed sum this month. Wyevale and Country Homes are former owners.
Gow said: "It's a rather sad, unloved centre after years of neglect and decline. We've got to bottom that out. However, it has a good building and car park and there's no great money needed to revamp.
"Plants are going to be very important - that is where we're going to make the difference."
Gow will be managing director while his wife, Nicci, will manage the garden centre, to be called Fresh at Burcot.
The former Byrkley centres director explained: "My role at GIMA will continue. That is part of the strategy. This has been a lifetime ambition after having been 25 years in the business."
