That is the view of Greenfix Sky-Garden technical sales director Mike Cottage, whose firm has carried out work at Westonbirt Arboretum, Adnams Brewery in Suffolk and Loughborough University.
He believes the market for green roofs and walls will increase as firms attempt to adapt to climate change and appear eco-friendly. "Green-walling will have one of the most significant effects on how we build in the future," he said at the APL/SGD autumn workshop.
The major challenge for installers, however, is ensuring longevity.
"You see some absolutely stunning walls at the Chelsea flower show but they only need to be there for a couple of weeks," he added. "The challenge is keeping them for a long time. If you don't have good maintenance you will get failures."
