Developer Peel Lifestyle Outlets has submitted for an Approval of Matters Planning Application to Glasgow Council for the major 3.2 hectare mixed-use development at Glasgow Harbour, located close to Glasgow’s West End.

Alongside shopping the development will have a public square and events space, a waterfront promenade, restaurants and cafes, a new cinema, gym and family leisure facilities. Gillespies has worked closely with the developer and Glasgow based ADF Architects to design the streetscapes, events spaces and riverside routes.

Peel Lifestyle Outlets has already successfully brought its business model to Manchester and Gloucester and is known for offering customers experiences including live fashion shows and food festivals alongside more traditional retail park facilities.

Managing director Jason Pullen said: "Shopping has evolved to become a major leisure activity. We are creating the next generation of outlet destination by delivering a balanced combination of exciting leisure and entertainment with a strong retail offering. Our Lifestyle Outlets are 4th generation outlets and far removed from soulless factory outlets. Glasgow Harbour Lifestyle Outlet will have a multi-generational appeal, as operators are supported by events, activities and performance space.

"The initial £100m investment, as well as delivering crucial construction and retail jobs, represents the next step in fulfilling the Glasgow Harbour masterplan and we’re excited to bring life back to Glasgow’s Clydeside."

A recent report by economic advisory business Amion Consulting estimated that the Glasgow Harbour Lifestyle Outlet could generate gross value added (GVA) income of around £45 million per annum within the local economy once complete. It could also attract up to five million more visits per year, the report added.

Peel secured Planning Permission in Principal in 2008 to rejuvenate the full 30-hectare site, which is located within the Clyde Waterfront Regeneration Programme. Work is expected to start on this phase next year and Peel Lifestyle Outlets aims to complete the project by 2021.

Peel Lifestyle Outlets is part of the Peel Group, a UK-based privately-owned investment company with a £50 billion development programme. It has interests in land and property, transport and logistics, retail and leisure, energy and media.
