GfK garden figures show May sales slip

Retail analysts GfK's latest i-Report shows gardening and DIY was down three per cent in May compared to May 2013.

Sales were up 21 per cent in April and 26 per cent in March and had been up between three and 26 per cent every month since March 2013 except for September 2013 when they fell two per cent.

GfK said; "After favourable weather in March and April boosted sales in gardening, the momentum was lost in May. Significant fallers were growing media (down 16 per cent month-on-month)and fertilisers (down 13 per cent month on month)."

March 2014 was three per cent up on March 2012.
