Gavin Jones begins work on BSkyB development

The Gavin Jones Group has started work on a commercial landscaping contract as part of a £233m development for BSkyB.

The Harlequin 1 site in Osterley, west London, has been designed to use up-to-date sustainable technology such as a combined cooling heat and power plant, two wind turbines and rainwater harvesting.

Gavin Jones is carrying out work on a £320,000 soft landscape scheme - designed by landscape architect Charles Funke Associates - including topsoiling, shrub planting, planting of semi-mature trees and 12 months' maintenance.

Around four to six members of the Gavin Jones team are on site at any one time.

The Bovis Lend Lease site aims to provide studios, technical and operational space for people working in broadcast operations, Sky Sports and broadcast technology.

The London Borough of Hounslow has also been involved in the planning process and has been given some Section 106 money for local improvements.

Gavin Jones landscape director Mike Ogden said: "The new site is an exciting and innovative new build and being part of such an impressive sustainable development is a great contract win.

"This presents us with an opportunity to showcase our soft landscaping skills and we are delighted to have added it to our portfolio."
