Former B&Q senior sourcing manager Stainton will be responsible for buying and UK and European sales at the Lincolnshire-based supplier of gardening and wild-bird-care products.
Gardman chief executive Mark Pearson said: "We have appointed Tim because of his appreciation of the UK's gardening industry and the excellent experience he has in both sourcing and marketing garden products.
"Tim has a great track record in successfully launching new product categories, working with brands such as Ryobi, Homelite and AEG, and his experience in sourcing products from and developing suppliers in the Far East will be invaluable to the Company.
"We are delighted that Tim is joining the team at Gardman and I am confident that he will play a significant part in the delivery of our ambitious goals during the coming years."
Stainton has worked in various roles for Boots in Thailand, The Netherlands, Japan and Hong Kong. He was also employed by The Caudwell Group as buying controller and subsequently worked as senior sourcing manager at B&Q.
Prior to joining Gardman, Tim was with the DIY, lawn and garden power tools company Techtronic Industries, where he held the role of UK commercial director.
