Gardeners' World presenter is right mix of the greats, says APL chair

Gardeners' World presenter Toby Buckland could be as good as Geoff Hamilton and Alan Titchmarsh, according to Association of Professional Landscapers chairman Adam Frost.

Adam Frost said that Toby Buckland is a great choice as presenter of BBC Gardeners' World, which he took over from Monty Don last month.

"Geoff Hamilton had this great ability to be able to stand there and enthuse people," explained Adam Frost, who became chairman of the Association of Professional Landscapers on 17 September.

"People wanted to go out there and garden after watching him.

"On the other hand, Alan Titchmarsh has promoted the industry to a wider audience and at the moment we need something that is a mix of the two.

"Toby Buckland could be that mix."

Adam Frost said clients had been praising Toby Buckland's approach, and added that after working for Geoff Hamilton for a number of years he was eager to see someone who could enthuse people in the same way.

"Toby Buckland is a complete unknown which is great, but it is quite brave," he added.

"Time will tell how good he'll be."
