The Worcestershire grower switched to plastic trays after a period spent using polystyrene and received positive responses at the Four Oaks Trade Show, Glee and the South West Growers Show.
Nursery manager Edward Boers said: "The old trays had to be snapped apart and there was always the chance of breaking the product. The new trays are a lot easier to handle, with no risk of breaking, and they look a lot better.
"The polystyrene was white and often ended up looking quite dirty. Also, the plastic trays are recyclable, and while the old trays were too, a lot of the garden centres didn't realise that."
The change has allowed the company to win back its biggest customer, Boers said.
Plantpak, which produced the trays, will adapt them to fit the labels used by Gardener's Kitchen.
