Perrywood Garden Centre in Tiptree, Essex, will be running a series of events from October 21 to 23. There will be a ‘try before you buy’ tasting and match-making service, and visitors will have the chance to taste some of the old fashioned and modern apples available from the nursery with expert advice to help visitors find the best apple varieties for their garden.
October 21 is UK Apple Day. Among those taking part were Waterperry Garden Centre (7 – 9 October), Webbs Garden Centre in Wychbold (15 and 16 October), The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery in Lostwithiel, Cornwall (week of 17 October).
Frank P Matthews Nursery has sold 12,000 apple trees of 60 varieties to 200 garden centres in the past two months. Bestseller is "Scrumptious", while "Rosette" and "Christmas Pippin" are up and coming.
