Garden centre sales flat for mid July

Garden centre sales flat in the week to 21 July, according to figures supplied to HW.

Garden furniture and plants were well up, but indoor categories, such as food and craft fell in the hot weather.

Aquatics sales were up eight per cet, clothing was up 30 per cent, craft was down 25 per cent, food was down eight per cent, garden furniture was up 35 per cent, sundries was up 10 per cent, gifts was down 20 per cent, houseplants was down 15 per cent, outdoor plants was up 15 per cent, pets was down one per cent and catering was down 20 per cent.

Overall sales were around level with the same week in 2012.
