Garden centre manager blasts "uninterested" youngsters from JobCentre

Richard Haddock, who co-owns Churston Farm Shop & Garden Centre in Devon, said he has given up taking recruits from the government's JobCentre Plus centres because they lack a work ethic.

He told The Daily Mail: "I have had youngsters sent here from the JobCentre and most aren’t interested in working. They just want their form signed to show they came.

"They turn up late, half-asleep or with hangovers and spend half their time checking their mobiles."

He now intends to recruit older people and foreign workers instead, he said.

The £250,000 garden centre, an extension to Haddock's farm shop, opened in 2009.
