Garden centre customer service skills focus of HTA courses

The HTA is running a series of practical and interactive skills workshops focused on customer service and team leadership skills for garden centre, nursery and landscape businesses.

The workshops are set to take place during autumn 2012 at garden centre venues throughout the UK.

Customer Service Skills led by Clare Bennett is a one-day workshop to develop and improve staff interaction with customers in a sales environment. The workshop will include sessions that simulate customer service scenarios to enable participants identify the key skills, behaviours and activities that enhance sales opportunities. It is appropriate for colleagues with customer facing roles that are new to sales or wish to develop their skills further.

Practical Team Leader Skills led by Veronica Winterton is a two-day course to develop practical skills and techniques for managing a team effectively. The course will cover communication techniques, managing team member performance and how to hold effective team meetings. It is appropriate for colleagues that are new to the team leader role or those who wish to develop their skills further.

HTA training and careers manager Penny Evans said: "Great customer service and managing your teams to deliver is critical in the current climate, when footfall is down and the need to maximise all sales opportunities is more important than ever.  These workshops provide really practical hands on techniques and skills, enabling staff to put what they have learnt into practice immediately. With two experienced trainers, Clare Bennett and Veronica Winterton, delegates will be put at ease by sharing best practice and experience from other industries as well as the group sharing experiences"

The Customer Service Skills workshop costs £95 + VAT for HTA members with courses starting in September. The Practical Team leader Skills workshop costs £135 + VAT for HTA members and courses start in October.
