An offender who targeted elderly and vulnerable people in garden centre car parks to con them out of cash was jailed yesterday.
Daniel Wakeford, 28, of Wilton Road, Redhill, Surrey, was given an eight month sentence at Redhill Magistrates Court on 10 July after constantly approaching people in car parks of hospitals, garden centres and petrol stations in efforts to get cash.
Wakeford had been known to operate in the car parks at East Surrey Hospital, Knights Garden Centre, Oxted, Squires Garden Centre in Reigate, Redhill’s BP petrol station and Doves Garden Centre in Felbridge.
He was also given a two year Anti-Social Behaviour Order with conditions which will prevent him carrying out similar offences in the future.
Reigate and Banstead Inspector Richard Haycock said: "Wakeford targeted vulnerable members of society with his lies in order to defraud them out of money.
"I welcome the sentence passed to Wakeford and hope that it sends out a clear message to him and other offenders that we have a zero tolerance approach against those committing crime in Surrey."
