Garden centre car park to become prayer room

Plans for a prayer room in Blackburn, Lancashire on a former garden centre site have been given the green light.

Plans to transform the car park of the former Beardwood Garden Centre into a prayer room were recommended for refusal by council officers, but councillors voted 10 to five to grant permission.

Planners at the council had felt the scheme offered insufficient parking and was not suitable for a residential area. Another concern was the overdevelopment of the predominately residential area.
