Four Oaks Trade Show Awards 2018: The Winners

An LED product that doubles the life span of the Grow Light potentially creating significant savings for growers while using less energy, scooped the Technical Excellence Award at this year's Four Oaks Trade Show where the latest developments in professional products and plant breeding went head to head.

The product - INDO Element - was developed by INDO Lighting, one of a raft of first time exhibitors taking part in this year's show at Lower Withington in Cheshire (4-5 September). 

Strong competition for the Award for Best Professional Product or Service saw a High Commendation for Sinclair for its Zinc Complex, a micronutrient formulation to promote the production of auxin which trials have shown to improve yield and plant quality even in extreme weather conditions.

Taking the Award, was XL Horticulture for XL Evo Twin Skin which, said the judges, "dramatically simplifies the cladding of tunnel structures for those seeking the thermal benefits of twin skins". 

Once again strong competition saw a high commendation in the category, Best Professional Equipment, for  Agralan for its Birchmeier AS1200 product - an air supported spraying system which enhances even distribution of protection products.   

Taking the Award for Best Professional Equipment was Plantopia for its Skelly Tray described by judges as a: "brilliant solution which allows bio pots to be used with automatic filling machines as well as breathing, and being transported safely."

Best Retail Product went to the Vertical Planter from Tyne Moulds & Machinery - a green living wall system benefiting from a self-watering system and the ability to be fixed to any wall including cladding.

Stiff competition for Best New Bedding Plant Introduction saw High Commendations for Salvia Rockin’ Fuchsia from Kernock Park Plants and for Garvinea ‘Sweet Sunset’ from Florist Holland.  Taking the Award was Beekenkamp Plants for Helianthus SunBelievable "Brown Eyed Girl" - a free flowering sun flower that flowers from June until the first frosts.

Best Nursery Stock Introduction again saw High Commendations for Echinacea "Full Salmon" from Allensmore Nurseries and for Rudbeckia "Forever Gold"from Rijnbeek & Son.  Taking the Award, was Genessis Plant Marketing for Dryopteris wallichiana 'Jurassic Gold' - a new cultivar discovered on a nursery near the Jurassic coast which boasts new foliage that is bright golden orange when it emerges. 

The Best International Stand went to Plant-line and Most Innovative Stand to Zen-flora.

The packed awards presentation hosted by show media partner Horticulture Week saw more than 200 of the show’s top exhibitors gather to find out who had won this year’s coveted awards.
