Forum looks for local authorities

A drive to recruit more local authorities to the Northern Amenity Forum kicked off this week.

Founding members Mark Dempsey, from Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, and Gary Harland, from Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council, met on 22 October to discuss increasing the numbers of local authorities involved.

The Northern Amenity Forum aims to improve best practice in pesticide use in amenity areas. Harland said he hoped to increase membership in the region: "We have eight councils involved but there are some notable omissions so we want to discuss contact options."

The Northern Amenity Forum is also set to meet on 14 January in Wakefield, with a focus on training and personal development. Presentations on BASIS, NroSo and NVQs will be given on the day, and there will an update from the Pesticides Safety Directorate on changes to European legislation.
