Former Butters owner Graham Dunn has launched a rival plant selling "middleman" business called Cresco Horticulture.
Dunn told the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) seasonal plants conference on Thursday (21st November) that supply chain issues meant nurseries and big box retailers could not afford to duplicate any functions and that nurseries were struggling to 'speak the same language' as DIY and supermarket plant buyers.
Cresco is based at Young Plants in Warwickshire, where the event was held.
Other speakers on supply chain included Philip Evason and Chris Beytes. Beytes said the US had become a 'bloodbath' as big retailers took control of the grower-retailer relationship.
