Food Standards Agency steering group to discuss consumers' views on GM

The Food Standards Agency has set up its independent steering group to manage the forthcoming consumer dialogue work on genetic modification (GM) in food.

The group, which includes a variety of expertise and views on GM including Professor John Curtice of the University of Strathclyde, is holding its first meeting this week.

The project will provide an opportunity to discuss consumers understanding of GM and what they think it might bring in terms of risks and benefits.

It will also explore how people can be helped to make informed choices about the food they eat.

It is anticipated that the project will last for 12 months.
