Food price inflation at record low

Vegetables are among the product groups contributing to a "record low" in food price inflation last month, according to the British Retail Consortium-Nielsen Price Index.

Annualised food inflation slowed to 0.8 per cent in March – the lowest such figure since the index began in 2006.

Non-food reported annual deflation of 3.2 per cent in March. Overall retail prices have now fallen for 11 successive months.
