Fiskars' Bridgend operation in Wales will migrate to Nottingham by the 30 November 2010, where its brand Sankey has been sited for 155 years.
The move will centralise ordering and distribution for all its UK brands – Fiskars Garden Hand Tools, Sankey, Fiskars Scissors and Kitchen Devils. In the garden sector, Fiskars and Sankey have traditionally traded as separate businesses. The integration will streamline operations providing a better, faster and more effective customer service, said Fiskars.
Fiskars Brands MD Andrew Smith said:
"This move, while a difficult decision as it ends a long history in Wales, will provide a major boost to the UK business enabling us to strengthen our position as the UK’s number one garden specialist supplier by integrating all brands under one roof."
Fiskars has been based in Bridgend since 1992 and employs 26 people in the town, mainly in distribution, customer service and accounting departments. The sales and marketing function has been based in Nottingham.
A Fiskars representative said: "We have been through a period of consultation with every employee in Bridgend as this move will result in redundancies. All individuals are likely to continue to work for the business until the 30 November 2010. New roles will be created in Nottingham.
"This is not about saving money per se. It's about providing a better customer experience through moving to one central site for all the Fiskars Brands in the UK. We will be investing in developing our Nottingham site to include a new showroom and training facility and also increasing the number of job opportunities."
