The Royal Parks has spent £160,000 on improvements, de-silting Peg’s Pond, Still Pond and Thompson’s Pond, cutting back Rhododendron ponticum and adding habitats, paths and seating.

Director of parks and deputy chief executive of the Royal Parks Colin Buttery said: "We’re celebrating 60 years of opening to the public and it’s remarkable how quickly Isabella Plantation has become nationally known.

He thanked donators, Salix Bioengineering, Fountain maintenance staff and volunteers.

Wesley Kerr, chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund's board, said: "It was quite hard to get this project through the board because they are looking at areas of social deprivation but what convinced them is it is all about access."

Work started early last year and is due to complete next summer.

The project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Big Lottery Fund, The Royal Parks and the SITA Trust.
