Three teams of landscape architects and urban designers are working together on the £19m transformation of Leicester. London-based Burns & Nice completed the strategy for the whole city centre. Leicester City Council then accepted the firm’s bid to complete the work on one street and engaged two other practices for two other street areas. Derby-based Faulks Perry Culley & Rech and Rummey Design Associates of Kent were selected to complete the other parts of the plan. Council landscape architect and project team manager Adrian Pringle said the aim was to get the projects working in unison to hit a July 2008 deadline. “Because it’s such a large amount of work, we decided we had to go out to tender on a couple of the areas,” he added. The work is scheduled to be completed in time for the opening of a new John Lewis department store at Shires Shopping Centre.
