Brewery managing director Chris Ives said: "It has wonderful citrus characteristics and challenges the convention that you need hops from the New World to brew hop-forward beers. Creating and growing different and exciting hops like Olicana is vital for the British hop industry to stay alive."
It was unveiled at the Society of Independent Brewers' BeerX conference in Sheffield last month. Charles Faram managing director Paul Corbett said: "This gives us an excellent first-hand opportunity to assess the brewing potential of this new hop and we hope that it is well received."
Olicana was the name of the Roman settlement on the site of the West Yorkshire town and the brewery will have exclusive use of the variety until next year.
