Ex Fujikura staff net arb division

New firm Sorbus International has this month taken over all existing arboriculture business from Fujikura Europe.

The eight-strong Sorbus team, all former Fujikura Europe staff, is headed up by co-directors Phil Wade and Ian Isaacs. The takeover follows Fujikura Europe’s decision to pull out of the arboriculture sector and concentrate on its other products. Wade said it was a great opportunity for his team to grow the business and focus on expanding the hi-tech equipment side. He said: “We had always been a bit of an anomaly in the group and although the turnover [of the arboriculture products] was £1m plus, in Fujikura Europe terms it was peanuts. “The company was quite happy for us to take over the business and take the stock off.” Sorbus, which was formed on 26 November 2007 but started trading on 7 January, is remaining at Fujikura Europe’s offices in Westbury, Wiltshire, until it finds its own premises. It will continue to supply specialist arboriculture equipment for climbing, bracing, lowering, pruning and safety, as well as hi-tech equipment for decay detection, digital survey and radar root mapping. “It is quite a major change for me, but you come to a point in your life when you need a fresh challenge,” added Wade, who had worked at Fujikura Europe for 30 years. “We couldn’t really expand the way we wanted to before, but now we’ve taken over we can look at the technology that we’re really interested in.”
