The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded confirmed funding of £12.4m to six parks located in London, Essex, Suffolk, Newcastle, Merseyside and Dunbartonshire. In partnership with the Big Lottery Fund, £3.5m was awarded to two further parks situated in Surrey and Nottingham.
HLF chief executive Carole Souter said lottery funding provided an essential source of money to ensure that parks remained at the heart of local communities.
Chief executive of parks charity GreenSpace Paul Bramhill said the benefits of parks were beginning to be acknowledged, adding: "We must ensure they can continue to contribute to our environment through recognition, reinvestment and sustainable management."
Support totalling £725,427 was also awarded to a further 10 parks to enable them to develop detailed plans for future restoration work.
