Employer of the Year - GP Plantscape

Founded in 1997 to provide interior and exterior landscaping services to corporate clients, GP Plantscape now has 109 people throughout the UK with depots in Fife, Aberdeen, Manchester, Newcastle, and Leicester. The firm recognises that people are the heart of the business, which translates in an ability to be competitive. IIP specialist Stephen McQuillan wrote in one of his feedback reports: ‘Without exception, all managers and staff outline the vision, purpose and values of the organisation and how they have been involved in developing it. They referred to the ‘GP Way’ and what it meant to them and customers." Continually striving to create a fun environment in the workplace, providing opportunities to develop, investing in technology, clear communication and being flexible as an employer is testimony to the fact that people enjoy working at GP.

Judges’ comments

"GP Plantscape shows a clear commitment to develop and support the people working in the company. It has a clear focus and direction as well as a professional approach to the way it recruits and develops its people. Adoption of the Healthy Working Lives scheme and the approach to providing significant development opportunities for every person is a particular highlight. The company recognises and celebrates longevity of service and individual milestones. Investors in People and Healthy Working Lives accreditation is a strong feature and perceived as good external benchmarking. Clear leadership from the top is particularly helpful for the company to develop and take up new technologies that support workforce development and improve working practices and hence productivity."
