Eco features form core of airfield design brief

Lloyd Bore Landscape & Ecology has been recruited to draw up a development brief for the former World War Two Eye Airfield.

Mid Suffolk District Council asked the practice to set out key design principles for the 250ha site located near Stowmarket.

The team surveyed landscape and ecology to pinpoint sensitive areas and look at possible future development. Findings will go out for consultation later this year.

A "green heart" could anchor the site through the adoption of wind power, harnessing biomass energy and a host of eco features such as mini green corridors, swales, cycle paths and woodland.

The site could include community orchards, meadowland and a habitat zone, according to practice director Julian Bore.
