Dundry Nurseries owner Chris Evans, who set up the Butterfly Garden 10 years ago as a therapeutic project for young people has been given the British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours list.
The Cheltenham garden was set up at the nursery 10 years ago to help youngsters with autism, but has grown to a place where people with disabilities of all sorts can learn gardening and other skills such as woodwork, cookery or even drama and dance.
The Duchess of Gloucestershire visited earlier this year to see a newly-opened £100,000 wooden cabin.
Evans recently presented The Conservation Foundation's co-founder David Bellamy with donated broken tools for the charity's Tools Shed project, to be refurbished by prisoners.
