This is a small central London courtyard garden/rear garden dominated by a large mature magnolia that the client wanted to keep. The garden had to provide for entertainment as well as relaxation. The brief was to create a feeling of space, a lighter, airier feel and establish as much usable space as possible. Bartholomew Landscaping designed and constructed the gardens to reflect a smart contemporary feel and used printed Perspex screens to create a feeling of depth and space beyond. Only the highest quality materials have been used throughout.
"Acrylic walling, precision-laid York stone paving and an intriguing and highly-effective installation of glass screens with images of trees that give depth to the space are all enhanced by minimal yet effective soft planting.
"A beautiful existing magnolia tree has been retained as a central feature providing welcome shade from the summer sun.
"With the only access to the garden being through the house, no heavy machinery was permitted and all stone had to be cut to shape off site.
"This logistically challenging project has been executed to an extremely high standard and to the delight of the clients."
