Dobbies to open Garden Hatch streetfood experience

The Mexican-themed streetfood van will add to the food options at Dobbies Garden Centre in Edinburgh.

Street food heaven" experience is about to open at Dobbies Melville.

Food served includes hot tacos and chilled drinks.

Dobbies hospitality director Paul Spencer has helped introduce the concept.

The Edinburgh store is Dobbies format for the future as profiled here.

Melville has seen the largest change in decades. The restaurant is now the biggest in Scotland with 650 covers. As well as a single old collect-on-a-tray counter, there is a counter where customers order from to have food delivered to the table, within 12 minutes.

The menu has 10% that is new with more vegan and food intolerance options. Greeters help customers understand the options, which also include a secondary cake/coffee/ice cream counter which also serves a new soft play area. There’s also a coffee kiosk outside the centre as well as the Citroen van Mexican street food offer.

Sales proportions remain 39% horticulture, 34% general merchandise and 27% restaurant.

Meanwhile, Dobbies could buy more Wyevale Garden Centres, having bought 37 so far. There are 43 Wyevales remaining, with 101 now sold over the last year.
