Garden centre chain Dobbies has started the construction of a nature-themed visitor attraction next to its recently opened site at Atherstone, in Warwickshire.
Scheduled to open in spring 2004, the Garden World attraction will feature three distinct leisure experiences aimed at young and old alike, with living plants at the core of each.
Dobbies chief executive James Barnes said: “This is a natural and very exciting enhancement of the Dobbies experience. Throughout our 17 UK sites, we have already established ourselves as far more than a retailer of plants, seeds and garden tools. In fact, our focus on scale and diversity has ensured that every Dobbies has become a leisure destination in its own right.”
The attraction will feature Maze World, six full-size mazes by designer Adrian Fischer, who has worked on mazes at Leeds Castle, in Kent, and Staunton Country Park in Hampshire.
The futuristic Plantasia will be an interactive experience revealing the mystery and power of the elements, while the Wildlife Garden will feature natural attractions through walks and trails.
Barnes believes that Dobbies is changing the face of the garden retail sector. He said: “We have combined the company’s expertise and understanding of the customer with innovative vision and creativity to ensure Dobbies leads the way in satisfying the growing demand for leisure-focused retail experiences.”
