The plant earlier lost its contract to supply Morrisons that was thought to be worth around £16m. Subsequent talks with Asda to negotiate new business failed.
The facility has been used by a number of food companies, from pie makers to seafood suppliers, since the 1960s. It was acquired by Del Monte in 2003.
The news follows the closure of another Yorkshire salad processor, Bakkavor-owned English Village Salads, last month.
