Degramec potting machine shares technical award

An innovative way to automate the transport and laying out of nursery pot plants was the joint winner of the technical award at IPM, presented by INDEGA, the consortium of German industry for horticulture.

The Ter-A-Spacer from Belgian nursery and engineering firm Degramec not only sets down 100,000 plants a day, it also uses a global posititioning system to record the exact position of each pot, to ensure subsequent automatic watering and dosing can be accurately applied.

"The GPS is accurate to within 1cm," said technical manager Jochen De Graeve. "This is just a prototype though - each machine will be specific to the grower's needs, and we expect they will be big growers."

The award was shared with climate regulation software developed by German company ELAU Ambrozy.
