We are excited to spread the word about your trade charity Perennial at the Horticulture Week Parks and Gardens Live and Custodian Awards.
Perennial has been helping people in horticulture for 180 years. We help anyone who creates or maintains gardens, parks, sports facilities and other green spaces. If you work with plants, trees or grass, or work in the places where they grow, Perennial is your trade charity. Our free and confidential advice, support and financial assistance is often described as a ‘lifeline’ and extends to everyone retired from the industry.
People turn to Perennial for practical, independent help for all manner of reasons. Jobs within the industry are often physical, low paid, tied to accommodation or seasonal. These factors can lead to increased risk of injury, unemployment and financial strain. We understand that one issue can often lead to another, which is why we help people for as long as they need us.
We help people like Andrew who worked for his local authority Parks and Landscapes department for over 26 years. He had to leave his job to care for his wife who had suffered several severe health problems. The drastic and sudden cut in their income meant they were unable to manage financially.
We awarded a grant to pay for their bankruptcy costs and instated Perennial’s regular Quarterly Benefit and assisted them with Disability Living Allowance reviews for his wife and a new application for Pension Credit once Andrew turned 60.
Unfortunately, Andrew became ill with both physical and mental health problems and became virtually housebound. We helped to claim Personal Independence Payment for Andrew. He was awarded the enhanced rates for both the Daily Living Component and the Mobility Component and with the back pay received from the length of the decision-making process was able to purchase a mobility scooter which allowed him to leave his home.
While we are best known for helping people when they get into difficulty, we also work with people to prevent situations spiralling out of control. We are working hard to let everyone in the industry know about us and feel confident to get in touch before reaching crisis point and we need your help to spread the word.
