Cumbria's Little Dodd in revamp development

Little Dodd Garden Centre in Keswick, Cumbria, is progressing with plans to redevelop the site, which Andrew and Pauline Lewington bought earlier this year.

Andrew Lewington said he planned to move the cafe into an on-site bungalow and add table service, and make the existing cafe into a farm shop. He hopes to rebuild the centre itself in 2012.

He will build inspiration displays and have the back of the planteria dug out and flood-proofed against water coming down from the fell Skiddaw, behind the centre.

He said 10 per cent of plant sales had been special requests this year, while his landscaping side of the business was also taking off.

Staff at the centre are training in horticulture at Newton Rigg College. A plan to build yurts in a neighbouring field is part of a separate planning application.
