Cardiff-based Alfresco Landscape & Garden owner Paul Melvin, who built Gaynor Witchard's best in show-winning garden, said: "People plan to spend less but with the same amount of impact. Good planting is the way forward. People don't realise what goes into a garden. They are reluctant to spend extra."
Cardiff-based contractor Jamie Broxton of Broxton & Moruzzi, which won silver gilt for its first show garden, CJ Garden Designs Urban Sanctuary, said: "We are getting big jobs but for the smaller jobs people are counting their pennies. People with money are doing large-scale things, replacing old gardens with new ones by designers."
