Conservation Foundation to host Brighton elm seminar

On 12 June, The Conservation Foundation is holding a seminar, the protection and legacy of our elm heritage, in Preston Park Bowls Pavilion, Brighton.


The seminar is part of the Foundation's Ulmus Maritime project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  Speakers from the UK, Isle of Man and the Netherlands will discuss the importance of the elm, control measures for Dutch Elm Disease, and research into resistant varieties. Around 50 tree professionals will attend. The seminar has support from Hillier Nurseries, suppliers of the New Horizon elm.


Until 22 June, an exhibition of the elm tree’s special place in the life of the Sussex Coast, its built environment, crafts and biodiversity is taking place at St Peter’s Church, Preston Park. Admission is free and the exhibition, created by Tom Stables and Rebecca Lucraft, is open daily from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
