Solus managing director Nick Davies said margin is a big problem in the industry: "We have become price-led. Other parts of Europe can get higher retail prices."
Scotts managing director Martin Breddy said: "It's about value, not price points, this season.
"Twelve months ago we were forced to put prices up but people bought more. If the value is there people will pay a premium. We should put prices up, especially on plants. There's more room in price points than we realise."
Delegate Piers Mummery, managing director of Shoots Garden Centres, said: "One of the secrets of success is to put prices up."
John Woods Nurseries managing director John Lord said: "'One size fits all' is not the right way to price plants. You have to look at plants individually."
