Conference to address importance of trees

The importance of trees as a learning resource will be the focus of a brainstorming session by experts who will also explore our orchard heritage.

The main feature of next month's conference will be a detailed look at trees for schools, focusing on selecting, planting and caring for trees in school grounds.

"Trees are an essential part of our world and ecosystems," said a representative
Delegates will tour an acclaimed heritage orchard, at Willock Farm in the Fenland, and learn about the history of orchards, tree care, local fruit varieties and harvesting.

Organic gardener Bob Lever, a member of the East of England Apples & Orchards Project, will reveal the secrets of identifying apple varieties.

Conference visitors will also learn about woodland habitats from a team of experts including Shaun Nixon of the Woodland Trust and farmer Kim Flint.

The get-together on 24 February takes place in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, and includes demos and hands-on sessions. Tickets cost from £20.
