Communities hail Groundwork's schemes

Three-quarters of people who worked with environmental regeneration charity Groundwork last year felt that their neighbourhoods had improved as a result, according to latest research.

The annual study of the organisation's impact on the communities with which it works showed 75 per cent of people saw an improvement in their local area. And 70 per cent said involvement with the charity had positively changed their attitude towards the environment.

Groundwork forges partnerships with communities in deprived areas to improve their prospects through offering training and job opportunities related to green space.

Between April 2010 and April 2011, the charity completed more than 6,300 community projects, improved or maintained more than 52 million square metres of public green space and planted 83,250 trees.

It also helped more than 7,600 people to find work and 13,500 individuals to achieve qualifications.
