Coles Nurseries holds centenary banquet

Coles Nurseries has celebated its centenary with a banquet at Beedles Lake Golf Centre to which staff, customers and suppliers were invited including many of the nursery stock sector's leading figures.

The event which was held last Thursday was addressed by Dr Stephen Duckworth OBE who gave a stirring speech on managing change, relating to Coles’ 100 year history and the current pressures on the industry.

The second speaker, Roy Lancaster OBE, chose ten different plants representing the ten decades of Coles Nurseries, and told the stories behind their discovery.

Managing director James Coles closed the evening with a raffle draw for a Lions Rugby Shirt, signed by Captain Finlay Calder and Dean Richards, donated by HSBC.

The evening raised over £650 for Perennial (Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society), bringing the total raised by Coles this year to over £1,200.

Said Coles, "We would like to thank all of our staff, speakers and guests for making the evening as enjoyable as it was, here’s to the next hundred years!"
