Water solution company Kingcombe Aquacare’s nursery division has begun supplying water plants to west England gardening co-operative Somerstock.
Speaking at the GAN trade show, Somerstock sales and marketing co-ordinator Niki Phelps said the co-operative, made up of Somerset and Dorset growers, had enjoyed significant growth in recent years.
Adding water plants to its stock list means the only category the co-operative does not supply is alpines, she said.
The co-operative has been operating for about 15 years, and its advantage lies in giving growers the opportunity to concentrate on what they are good at, with all the sales, administration and marketing done by the centralised organisation, Phelps said.
“We’re a wholesale nursery so we’re also a one-stop shop for garden centres. People can come to us and because we specialise, and the nurserymen only need to concentrate on their plants, the quality is very high.”
Phelps added that sales were already showing growth this year with January up and “hopefully” February showing the same trend.
Deliveries were made throughout the country and a cash-and-carry site was operated for trade customers near Yeovil in Somerset.
