Closure threat to nursery over citing of proposed traveller camp

An East Grinstead retail nursery has been threatened with closure after the local district council proposed building a gypsy camp on nursery land.

Mid Sussex District Council has suggested three sites for traveller camps including on Imberthorne Lane Nursery land.

Nursery owner Michael Dongray who has launched a petition against the proposal says it would be difficult to move his business. He says he has no grievances with travellers.

The council needs to find 34 traveller pitches by 2031 as part of national planning policy.

After a meeting on 23 July, a final decision could be made in May 2015.
