Christmas tree growers already certified, says BCTGA

British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA) secretary Roger Hay has said British growers are unlikely to follow Danish growers in being GlobalGAP certified.

Green Team Denmark, a Danish grower that grows in Denmark and Scotland, said: "For the first time ever, Christmas tree production has now been certified." The GlobalGAP certification, which tells consumers that growers use minimum pesticides and comply with legislation, has been awarded to three Danish Christmas tree growers.

Hay said: "Some UK growers have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council before so they are not the first people to be certified. BCTGA members have their own environmental code of practice that ensures higher standards of environmental and sustainable cultivation of Christmas trees."
