Chelsea triumph raises sales expectations

Javado expects strong sales following win at RHS show

Javado is expecting huge sales after its Mahonia eurybracteata subsp. Ganpinensis 'Soft Caress' was named RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2013.

Javado partner Chris Campbell said: "We're expecting big demand. We're working very closely with the grower, Van Son & Koot, to meet demand."

Last year's winner, Digitalis 'Illumination Pink' from Thompson & Morgan, has sold 300,000, said managing director Paul Hanford. "It's now up for two big awards in America so the world sales will be in millions."

Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants, which won in 2011, was shortlisted this year with Leucanthemum x superbum 'Real Neat'. Director Rob Hardy said: "We ask for restrictions so we can market it first."

This year, Clematis 'Lemon Dream' from Thorncroft Clematis was in second place and Tropaeolum 'Fruit Salad' from Thompson & Morgan came third.
