The RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2013 is Mahonia eurybracteata subsp. Ganpinensis ‘Soft Caress’.
The plant was displayed at the SeeAbility show garden and was supplied by Javado, who sourced the plant from Dutch grower Van Son & Koot.
It has an unusual form with ferny foliage which softens borders. It also has lemon yellow, scented blooms and blue berries.
Clematis ‘Lemon Dream’ from Thorncroft Clematis was in second place and Tropaeolum ‘Fruit Salad’ came third.
The Chelsea ‘Plant of the Centenary’ will be decided by a public vote and announced later this week.
