Chelsea gold medal winner Rosy Hardy tells of fears exhibit would be a Telly Tubby-esque mound of green

Like everyone else the weather was against Rosy Hardy, from Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants which nevertheless won a gold medal at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show for its herbaceous perennials - for the 18th year in a row.

Hardy said she was "tired, emotional and delighted" and was also surprised at the result.

She said: "To be honest I really don’t know how we managed to pull this off, ten days ago I was sure that all we would have would be a Telly Tubby-esque mound of green. 

"But a little heat and a wee bit of sunshine coaxed the plants into opening and growing a little more."

Hardy said she was also able to show some early spring plants which are normally past their best by now.

But it was not the only celebration for Hardy. Next week is her 25th anniversary with her husband Robert.

"The bottom line is that without my husband Robert I could not have done this," she said.

"My team also are unstoppable and I am so grateful to work with such professionals"

Hardy’s Anemone Wild Swan can be seen on the Gold Medal winning Laurent Perrier Garden by Ulf Nordfjell.
