Chelsea garden designer Kate Gould joins ex-service charity

A horticultural charity that helps former service personnel has signed up its first "charity champion".

Garden designer Kate Gould, who has won numerous medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, will help Gardening Leave launch a new garden and raise its profile in the horticulture world.

The charity was started by Anna Baker-Cresswell in 2007 to offer horticultural therapy to ex-service personnel in walled gardens. These are currently based at Auchincruive in Ayrshire and Erskine on the Clyde. Work has recently begun on a third site at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London.

Baker-Creswell said: "Gardening Leave improves the mental and physical well-being of veterans through horticultural therapy by giving them structure, routine and exercise.

"The veterans enjoy being with like-minded people, being outside and having something to do in a safe, peaceful environment."
